Summary

The project overall objective is to contribute to improvement of the rural population in the border region with Albania socio economic status and welfare through stabilizing and increasing the on farm and off-farm incomes. The project will utilize the existing values and prospects of the regions of Polog and Pelagonija from Macedonian side and Dibra and Elbasan from Albanian side, to improve the welfare of the target group by adding value to the existing traditional food products and improvement of the image of the same as an attractive destination for rural tourism.The overall objective of the assignment for comparative analysis and mapping of competitive  food products in cross border region with Albania is to make research and selection of 2 traditional food products and production technology (one product from the region Pelagonia from Macedonian side and one product from the region Elbasan from Albanian side)

The Federation of Farmers in the Republic of Macedonia (FFRM) is a non‐profit and Non Government Organisation which unites the work of members so that they exercise their rights and interests in a modern and democratic manner, and contributes to the development of sustainable agriculture and quality rural life. The organization operates through head office, Skopje and four Regional Centers proportionally spread in the Macedonian rural areas: Gostivar, Prilep, Stip and Strumica. FFRM members are farmers’ associations, regional and national unions, agricultural cooperatives and trade companies established by farmers or farmers’ associations, individual members as well as associate members.

KASH is the biggest organization reaching all sectors of Agriculture. KASH has 23 nationwide member associations with elected bodies in 12 Prefectures and 36 districts of the country. KASH mission is advocacy and promotion of the business that operates in agriculture. Advocacy is done through lobbying on legislative and executive organisms.

Initaly the project covered region of Macedonia and Albania.The main inovation of the initiative is the continuous knowledge improvement and experience exchange between rural inhabitants in the border
region will enhance their closer cooperaon.

 

Towards fulfilment of its basic mission, the Federation of Farmers in the RM in partnership with the
Albanian Agricultural Council implement the project entitled as "Experience the healthy rural life”, aims
to improve the economic condition of the rural population in the cross border regions (Polog, Pelagonia,
Elbasan and Dibra) through their mutual cooperation, the establishment of a training rural center, in the
village Vrutok, Gostivar, education for rural development, promotion of traditional food and rural tourism.
To achieve the project objectives towards improving of the livelihood of the rural population, it is necessary to make a comparative analysis and mapping of the competitive traditional products from the Cross Border region.

 

The main achieved results of the project are:
Analysis of existing documents and research for comparative analysis and mapping of
traditional agricultural food products in the targeted regions;
Comparative analysis of minimum 3 traditional agricultural and food products from the
Macedonian side and a minimum of 3 traditional agricultural and food products from the
Albanian side that are of standard quality, determined by geographical, traditional, cultural,
climatic and soil conditions prevailing in the respective micro regions;
Publication of the research on selected products which selection will be supported by the
project team, municipalities and other institutions, for both traditional agricultural and food
products and technologies for one product from the Pelagonia region from Macedonian side
and one product from Elbasan region from Albanian side.

The main target group as a direct beneficiary of the project is rural population in the cross border region.
The project actvities are primarily focused to the most vulnerable groups of rural population – rural women and youth.Additionaly,broader stakeholder community in agriculture and rural development from both countries (local self governments,educaon and research instituions,NGOs, tourist tour operators and agriculture advisory service providers)are involved.

 

Project was initiated by the Federation of Farmers in the RM in partnership with the
Albanian Agricultural Council implement the project entitled as "Experience the healthy rural life”.People involved in the initiative are also and institutions and organizations working for the development of agriculture and rural development.

 

During the project implementation there were not significant obstacles that changed the implementation or duration of planned activities.

 

The unfavourable conditions for living caused high rate of migration of rural population to big cities in home country or in abroad. Seen in this light, fostering innovation, education and mobilizing the full potential of rural areas emerge as important priorities that reduce disparities in development between and within the planning regions.

Bringing on mind the fact that most of the farmers in the proposed region are poor, without significant or any income from other sources, the main outcome was economic development of the society. For that purpose the objective of this  assignment is   comparative analysis and mapping of competitive traditional
food products in cross border region with Albania. As well as   to make research and selection of 2 traditional food products and production technology (one product from the region Pelagonia from Macedonian side and one product from the region Elbasan from Albanian side). These traditional food products will be recognized as potential for increasing of its value through the process of branding.

Decreasing of unemployment of the inhabitants and will diversify the sources of income by puting the respective cross border region on the rural tourismmapas a preferred destination.
Establishment of the regional rural training centre will enable rural populaon in the cross border region to haveimproved access to the updated knowledge to agriculture technologies, agro environmental measures, marketing and branding, rural tourism aswell as entrepreneurship skills.
Identified, branded and promoted typical traditional food products fromthe cross border region, two in each countrywill improve livelihood of the agricultural holdings by adding value of the selected products;
Furthermore, one of themost important added value elements of the project is strengthening of the network of rural population and organizations from both countries, involvement of themixed ethnicity in thewhole cross-border region and utilization of by-lingual approach in each of the project activities.
